I am gonna read up on possums since your comment. I just remember seeing them in the goofy movie. The most common reason for dislike is because you don't know. Thats why everyone hates ferrets because they don't know about them. Fear of the unknown! off to go read about possums.
Lmao I used to be so afraid of them too! But there was a possum on the news and she was cross eyed and it was SO ADORABLE. Now I love them! Haha here’s the link :3
Plus a lot of people just kill them for fun and it makes me want to cry ;-;
I may be getting two ferrets, and we have dogs that we take to the park when we have time since the weather is getting nice. If I were to get a harness and a leash, would it be appropriate to take them to the park with us on the leash if they enjoy it? I know people take them out, but I wasn’t sure exactly where they’d go with them or how their ferrets might react. (of course they are all different!) Just trying to do as much research as I can before getting the little guys!
You should try to walk them around your yard first and see how they take to the leash, and if you’re comfortable with that, then I would go for it! I used to take my other ferret to the park before he passed and he loved it, but if you aren’t careful they can wiggle their way out, so just keep a good eye on them! :) You’ll probably get a lot of attention, not many people are used to seeing ferrets on leashes!
I think I have my reasons to react like I did and you know it. And I didn't really say something about america except that many ferrets there is mistreated, nothing personal to you. Goodluck with your sweetie though!
What were your reasons? You were abusing your ferrets by feeding them garbage? I don’t think that’s a reason. Ferrets are mistreated globally. Which is why I reblogged your picture.
Sorry for saying so much here but I feel like I have to stand for myself here. I refuse to be treated like this. I've actually read alot about giving a raw diet for ferrets. It's very good for them, yes. But it's also something that's not too easy to do. There's alot of diseases and other bad stuff in raw meet especially chicken. If you buy they wrong one or something that have some bad thing about it your ferret can end up very sick. I'm not sure about usa but that's the way it is in sweden.
Actually, since a ferret’s metabolism is so fast, salmonella in chicken doesn’t have time to incubate in a ferret’s stomach, therefore does absolutely no harm to your fuzzies!
It’s been shown that feeding your ferrets a raw diet improves their overall health and prevents insulinoma. Plus, they find it very tasty since their ancestors hunted rabbits and other small animals in the wild for food.
If you have a difficult time feeding your ferret a raw diet, try incorporating it in with their usual kibble, or putting some ferretone on it to get them to associate it with something edible.
Nobody is treating you badly! I just don’t want to see ferrets getting fed things that aren’t good for them. A lot of people think raisins are a good treat for their ferrets, but since they are full of sugar they cause major problems inside your babies that cannot be seen until it’s almost too late. I don’t want to see cucumbers and ice cream do the same to your ferrets.
Why complain over that she gave her ferret icecream and cucumbers, when you live in usa and therefore should know how bad people actually treat them there? People who let the poor animals live in cages all time. This person you complained about has wonderful ferrets, i know her very well. She's so careful, has redecorated her house only for them, buys the absolute best food for them, and that's really expensive. The ice cream was a one time thing. Don't complain about things you don't know. Sad.
Like I said to your friend, I have a blog about my ferret to educate other people about how to properly take care of one.
If I see someone feeding their ferret ICE CREAM, which will give them an array of diseases, I will say something. I don’t want to see others doing the same to their own!
Like I said to her, if your ferret deserves a treat, give them raw chicken. Not only should you feed it to them regularly anyways, they would appreciate that a lot more than food that is even bad for humans.
I got my first ferret kit three years ago, when she was seven weeks old (her mother had a accident and died so I had to take her a week earlier). And before I got her I read about ferrets for years after years, talked to owners and make sure I got everything right. I've made DEEP researches to find out which food is best and most healthy for them. I go through much just to get my hand on that kind. I give my ferrets everything. And I know what's good and bad for them.
Whoa whoa! No need to get angry here. I try to educate people how to properly take care of ferrets. Ferrets are carnivores, which means cucumbers have zero nutritious value to them. Ice cream is like a promise to your ferret to give them insulinoma in the future. That’s like giving a diabetic a chocolate cake.
If you want to give your ferret treats, try giving them a raw chicken wing! They would really enjoy that :)
Ever since we got Farrah back from her little escape the other day, she has this new thing with gnawing on Jordan and I. We’ll pick her up and she’ll lick our hands, legs, whatever and start chewing really hard.
She has never done that before she got lost. When she starts doing it I’ll replace my hand with one of her chewy treats and she’ll chew on that, but if I take it away she’ll go right back to gnawing on us.
Is it possible that she could be teething? She’s only 3 months old.
Or do you think she’s acting weird from her getting out?
She’s acting and looking perfectly normal besides this, and I don’t want to take her to the vet if it’s not absolutely necessary until her shots next month because I’d hate to spend $200 tomorrow and then an additional $200+ in a few weeks D:
Any advice to what could be going on, fellow ferret owners?
Neither do mine… which reminds me, it’s about time for their bi-yearly bath. Max manages to pee all over himself somehow. So lovely.
Hahaha! My other ferret who passed, Subi used to do the same…
Aaaahhh grody! xD When Zaphod first got a bath when we brought him home, he just stood there and looked totally bewildered and then promptly tried to escape. Calypso was even worse— she flipped the hell out and booked it out of the bathroom. Poor thing. xD
Awh! I wish there was a way to get them to like taking a bath. Farrah just sits there while I scrub her and makes little angry dooks. I feel so bad!
